Unanticipated Exploration{open}

[Leeda Jewel*]

Leeda walked down the long corridor to the broom cupboard. She was going to take her silver Nimbus'07 for a nice ride. It was just after dinner, and since she had little homework and the sun was just setting, it seemed the perfect opportunity that she could not pass up. Maybe someone else would even be out there and they could scrimage.

Leeda entered the fairly small room that was still large enough to hold all of school's and students' brooms. Some were new like hers, and others were incredibly old and dusty. It was pretty dim lit, so she had to feel along the wall to find her broom. The rows were marked with numbers, and hers was in row 15. She spotted the row close by and was about to walk over, but first, the brick she touched began shaking.

Leeda drew back, startled, and watched as a doorway suddenly materialized before her eyes. She sucked in her breath, amazed. "Wow...Something new everyday," she said. Curiousity getting the best of her, Leeda stepped over to the doorway and saw a set of stairs outlined by a faint glow coming from lit torches. She really wanted to go flying, but this seemed like a bit of fun too. The only thing bothering her was that she was alone, and there was an opportunity for danger. So, she stood there at the top of the stairs, pondering over what to do.

Hmmmm, homework, all the way across the castle...or a short broom ride to sharpen my keeping skills...Is that really even a question?

Gwen giggled to herself as she strode over to the broom cupboard. Her broom, a Nimbus 2001 was practically her best friend, it could take her anywhere she wanted when she just wanted to...leave. Away from he rfather who never loved her, away from the thoughts of her dead mother, and the stress of the school and the stupid drama that came with it.

She opened the door and walked down the dusty steps into the long rows of brooms, hers, in row 15. As she arrived in the row, she noticed that the broom space next to hers was empty. someone else has been here she thought. Gwen grabbed the black and sleek broom and turned to walk back up the stairs.

She jumped to hear the noise of what seemed to be falling bricks. Gwen turned and looked to see what the source of it was. She saw a Hufflepuff girl standing there with her broom, looking almost as surprised as she was.
Behind the girl were stairs dimly lit by torches. Gwen squinted, trying to see through the flying dust and darkness. "Umm, are you okay?" she asked quietly, taking a step forward.

Suddenly, the click of a door made Leeda aware that she was no longer alone. Hmm...maybe it's someone I know, and they'll come explore with me. She coughed as dust filled her lungs and waited for it to settle before looking around.

Hollow footsteps were coming closer and closer until a girl Leeda recognized as a Ravenclaw stepped into Row15. At first, the girl didn't see her, but once she turned and looked at Leeda, she squinted to the stairs behind her and asked, Umm, are you okay?. Glad that she hadn't startled the girl, Leeda offered a kind smile and replied in a warm voice with a hint of laughter, "Yes, I'm fine...but this wall on the other hand...." She gestured behind her and continued, "I just touched it, and all of a sudden it dematerialized into this....I'm curious as to see where it leads."

Although Leeda didn't really know this girl, she wondered if she'd want to come exploring with her, but waited to see what she'd say about if before asking.

Gwen smiled, she had finally met someone pleasant enough to treat her kindly. "Yeah, it does look pretty cool. I'd go in there with you....I mean, if thats alright with you. I haven't gotten to have a lot of adventure yet, and I am ready to start something new." she said, feeling a bit like a chatterbox. She set her broom back down against the dusty stone wall and turned back to the Hufflepuff girl.

Gwen quickly glanced down at her robes, that happened to been completely covered in dust. She swiped them a couple times with her hands and looked back up at the girl. She gave a weak smile, a little self-conscious.

Even though Leeda had just met her, the girl seemed like someone she'd get on with well. She didn't just invite herself along; she asked if it was alright. She also seemed to share a desire for adventure. Leeda smiled kindly and replied, "Sure, I'd really love to explore it down here...and I'd hate to go alone." She pointed to the girl's broom. "That is, as long as you don't mind skipping flying for the day."

As the Ravenclaw suddenly became conscious of her dusty robes, she patted the dust off, and Leeda suddenly realized she too must be dirty. "Oh, I must look like total mess," she giggled shaking off her lavender robes. After she was pretty sure she was clean, she remembered they hadn't introduced themselves yet. "Oh, but the way, I'm Leeda...Jewel. Leeda Jewel." She almost stuck out her hand, but thought better of it since it was covered in dust.

Seems like a nice day for a walk, Valeria thought. She had just come down the stairs and started walking towards the door. She was only a couple feet away, when something caught her attention to her side. She turned and saw two girls looking like they just met. She didn't know anyone, so she decided to go over and introduce herself.

As she got closer, she saw one girl was a Ravenclaw, and the other one she didn't recognize. She walked closer to them, "Um, hi." She felt like she was intruding, so she didn't say anything else.

Um, hi.

Leeda turned a few degrees to see another person in the row she'd found the secret entrance. She did not recognize her,
hmm... I don't think I've seen her before. I hope the part of the wall that got blasted wasn't near her broom!
Not knowing the girl didn't make Leeda shy in the slightest. She was good at meeting new people because she was so amiable. The girl seemed a bit self conscious, so she smiled at her, glad to have a third person, and said, "Hello. I'm Leeda...and this is uhm..." she looked quizically but politely at Gwen because the new girl had arrived just as she was about to find out what it was. She smiled at Gwen in an apologetic way for not knowing her name.
