Mairi had just gotten to Hogwarts and decided to explore the grounds first. She was wearing her school robes with her Hufflepuff crest embroidered onto the top left corner. She walked out of the Entrance Hall and into a huge patch of sunshine. She closed her eyes and stretched her arms towards the sky. When she opened her eyes, her sight fell upon the orange-ish gold sunset which was turning the surrounding clouds pink. "This is amazing!" she said with astonishment.
In the distance she noticed two boys sitting in the grass. She ran over towards them, eager to start making friends.

Usually, Jesse would come out here to get some rest and enjoy the peace and silence of this place. But it had turned out to be different, first there was that Ravenclaw guy and now when Jesse sat up a little he noticed another figure walking towards them and if he saw it right, a Hufflepuff.
Jesse didn't mind company at all, but at times it was good to be alone as well, just to think things through a little. But he guessed there was plenty of time for that later. "Looks like we have another visitor" Jesse said as his blue eyes followed the Hufflepuff girl walking towards them.

As Mairi walked up towards the boys she began to have second thoughts. What if making friends was hard? Should she try to make friends that were girls first? What would people think of her? All these questions, and more, flew in and out of her mind, but she thought that since she was here now she should at least try to make the best of her time.
"Uhh... hey there..." She stammered as one boy watched her walk up. She noticed that boy was a Slytherin, and the other was a Ravenclaw. "My name's Mairi. Mairi Avalbane." She announced.

"Uhh... hey there..."
Why did the new kids always stammer, that was something that Jesse never had understood. When meeting new people it always was about making a good impression, right? Then why did they always stammer, seemed shy or did something stupid, making them even more nervous. They should be confident, funny, maybe even a little arrogant.
"My name's Mairi. Mairi Avalbane."
Yet there was another student wanting to meet him and the Ravenclaw next to him. When Jesse had been a first year, he didn't really wanted to meet alot of people, okay maybe from his own house, but somehow he got into contact with other people of other houses and it rather felt nice to have friends who actually cared. "Jesse Miles" Jesse answered back as he continued to look at her.

Mairi started to feel a tad bit more calm after introducing herself. 'That was the worst part!' she thought to herself, 'Glad I got that out of the way!' Mairi glanced over at the Ravenclaw boy. 'He seems awfully quiet... Maybe he's just shy...' She thought.
"Nice to meet you Jesse." She paused, "Um, do you mind if I sit down?" she asked him.

"I guess so" Jesse said as he laid back down. He then realised that Shawn next to him hadn't said anything yet, so he opened one eye again, saying "Oh, and Ravie here is Shawn, but he's too occupied with thinking about something so he can't introduce himself". After he said that he closed his eye again, putting his hands behind his head.
So much for the silence and calmth Jesse thought to himself. First Shawn had come over and now this hufflepuff girl, what could be so interesting about this hill.

Mairi sat down and stared out at the sunset. "It's pretty." she said. It seemed as thought her gaze was fixed on the orange and pink colors blending together in the sky. She couldn't take her eyes off it. "Many people take things like this for granted. Just look at how pretty and colorful it is!" she said to the two boys, not knowing if either would consider this an interesting topic to talk about.
